Mickey began a formal career in retail and was employed by the JC Penney Company for 17 years. He then became a retail business owner himself with a ladies’ shoe department in two Virginia Crabtree fashion stores in Raleigh and Lumberton, NC. He retired and became a licensed realtor with Myrick and Associates before finally retiring permanently.
Mickey loved to meet people and spent most of his weekends at the Raleigh Flea Market where he enjoyed talking to folks as much as he did searching for old records. Music was Mickey’s passion, and he collected many genres of music. He whistled and sang songs to anyone who would listen. He always told his family and friends that the most joy he ever felt as a father and husband was during family trips to Topsail Beach, NC, where he was always the first one in the ocean. Anyone who knew him would agree he had quite a sense of humor and he made them feel special.
A celebration of Mickey’s life will be held on Sunday, June 28 at 2:00 at Mitchell Funeral Home, 7209 Glenwood Avenue, Raleigh, NC. The family will receive family and friends following the service. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, a donation be made to the Alzheimer’s Association Eastern NC Chapter.
