William was a man of many talents. He worked as Production Director of UNC TV, recorded radio commercials and voice-overs and announced for the North Carolina Symphony. He also enjoyed acting, having parts at the Raleigh Little Theater and in several movies including “From the Hip”, “The Richard Petty Story”, “Killers 3”, and “Fire Starter”.
William was a big history buff. He also loved aviation, often times going to the airport to watch planes land and take off. Among his other loves, he loved cats, nature, and driving on road trips all over North Carolina.
William is survived by three daughters, Patricia Lane Alspaugh, Billie Blyth Flores and Cynthia McSwiney; three granddaughters and their husbands, Dawn Andrea Aganon (Eric Aganon), Sloan Futch Lewis (Kenneth Lewis) and Jessica Futch Monzingo (Darren Monzingo); and a sister and her husband, Frances Flynn (Bill Flynn). William was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia Lane Alspaugh; his parents; and brother Harold Alspaugh.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, June 11, 2015 from 3:00-5:00pm at Mitchell Funeral Home, 7209 Glenwood Avenue, Raleigh, NC. A graveside service will be held on Friday, June 12, 2015 at 11:00am at Brier Creek Memorial Gardens, 7600 ACC Boulevard, Raleigh, NC. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Prostate Cancer Foundation, 1250 Fourth Street, Santa Monica, CA 90401.
