Dr. Vijay Manu Patel passed away unexpectedly and suddenly in the early morning of August 31st, 2016. He was a mere 49 years old and desired to practice at his solo family medicine practice for many years to come. Vijay served as the primary doctor to much of the Raleigh downtown and surrounding areas as for over 20 years after he graduated from the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. He prided himself on having a kind, mutually respectful, and personal relationship with all of his patients and was known to take a lot of time with anyone who needed him any time of the day or night.
He practiced his medicine and his life as an art. He loved working with and encouraging students of all ages, showing them how much they could learn, basking in the pride they felt when they learned that they were capable of fulfilling their dreams. He worked closely with all of his staff and patients and thought of them as his family. He was a kind and generous husband and friend. He loved the simple things in life; walking the dogs, sharing a meal with friends, watching a movie and no one was a stranger.
He is survived by his wife Tove Arwen Moore, his father Manubhai Patel, his stepmother Kokila Patel and his siblings Raksha Patel Basuroy and Dr. Shahil Patel, Dr. Kshamata (Dolly) Skeete and Alpa Patel Fador and his father-in-law John Moore. He was preceded in death by his mother, Jayaben Patel and his mother-in-law Judith Moore.
In lieu of flowers, Tove is setting up a scholarship at UNC Medical School in Dr. Patel’s name. In lieu of condolence cards, please share your memories on Dr. Patel’s page on the Brown-Wynne website so everyone in the family can take the time to read them.
