Thomas earned his Masters in Business degree, which he put to good use throughout his career. He loved to spend his free time playing golf and fishing. He was an avid sports fan, and enjoyed UNC sports, and rooting for the Steelers. Thomas loved his family, and enjoyed seeing and spending time with his six grandchildren.
Thomas is survived by his wife, Patricia Mitchell; children, Jennifer Morrison and her husband, Clint and Christopher Mitchell and his wife, Amanda; and six grandchildren, Meredith, Ryan, Abigail, Greyson, Ethan and Rowen. He was preceded in death by his parents, Arlene and Thomas Jefferson Mitchell Jr.; and his sister, Janet Mitchell.
A funeral mass will be held on Tuesday, April 3, 2018 at 2:30 pm at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 940 Carmichael Street, Chapel Hill, NC.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation.
