Thomas N. Hobgood, Jr., 89, passed away on August 12, 2017. He was born in Granville Co., NC to the late Thomas N. Hobgood and Josephine Daniel Hobgood. Tom will always be remembered as a loving husband, father, brother, and grandfather. Tom served in both the Navy and Army, including active duty in Korea. He received his B.S. and M.S. degrees from NC State University, and his PhD from Florida State University. He spent his 40 yr. career in the Agricultural Extension Service, serving as interim Associate Director prior to his retirement.
Tom, and his wife, Tommie were charter members of Benson Memorial United Methodist Church, supporting their church for over 50 yrs. He served Benson in numerous leadership positions and was a member and teacher of the Hunt-Sharpe SS Class. In retirement, he held several leadership positions in NARFE (National Association of Retired Federal Employees), was a member of Kiwanis, and enjoyed volunteering for Meals on Wheels and the Food Bank of NC. Tom was a life long avid supporter of NC State and the Wolfpack.
Tom was predeceased by his wife of 68 years, Tommie. He is survived by sons, Benton Hobgood, wife Jo Ann, and Thomas N. Hobgood, III, wife Beverly, 6 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
A service to celebrate his life will be held on Saturday, August 19, at 2PM, Benson Memorial United Methodist Church, 4706 Creedmoor Rd, Raleigh, NC. The family will receive guests starting at 12:30PM at the church. Burial will follow at Raleigh Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Benson Memorial United Methodist Church Building Fund, 4706 Creedmoor Rd, Raleigh 27612.
