He was born in Griffin, GA in 1944 to Drs. LeRoy and Jean Harris. He was proceeded in death by his parents and sister, Dr. Sherrie Harris. He is survived by his wife Barbara, son Dr. Theodore Robert Jr, daughter-in-law Marianna, and one month old grandson Alexander.
He attended Griffin High School, University of Georgia (B.S., M.S., mathematics and statistics), Georgia State University (MBA). He held a long and awarded career serving the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in Washington, D. C., and Raleigh, NC, for 35 years.
Ted was a strong advocate and believer in the betterment of our world’s environment. He started his career with EPA at Research Triangle Park (RTP), NC, in the early 1970’s. He was an expert in the forefront of incorporating new computer technologies into our national environmental programs. Mid-career, Ted moved from North Carolina to work at the EPA headquarters in Washington, D. C. for several years where he continued his contributions to advance EPA’s computer capabilities. In 1983, he returned to RTP with his family continuing his career.
Ted was a past member of Ahavath Achim, Temple Beth Or, and Beth Meyer.
After retirement Ted enjoyed pursuing his interests of traveling, photography, and love of cars. He was a fan of Formula One, and had raced Porsches and BMWs. He and his wife loved spending the winters in Sarasota, FL.
Ted was very grateful to have had many friends who were part of his life. He was appreciative and supportive of his loving family. He was grateful to have met and spent time with his grandson before his passing.
