Suzanne Knowles Short, or “Suzie” to all of her friends and family, was born in Crosswicks, NJ, to Elgar and Katherine Knowles. She attended St. Mary’s Hall and Ursinus College and settled in Hopewell, NJ, for many years until she moved to Raleigh, NC, in 1981, her home until her death. Suzie worked for an accounting firm in NJ, Houghton Mifflin and eventually IBM, with whom she transferred to NC and met the love of her life, Robert (Bob) E. Short. Suzie and Bob were married and lived in Raleigh for 20 years until his death from cancer in 2009.
Suzie was a loving spouse, sister, mother, “Grammie” and great-Grammie; and, is survived by: her children: Lorie, Geoff and Doug (Terry) Cramer; daughter-in-law Patty Short (late step-son Mark); step-son Scott Short (Kim); grandchildren: Justin Pretzel (Cody Letson), Ryan Pretzel, Cameron Prince (Brandon), Ashley Short, Christopher Short, Liam June, Wyatt Short, Ella Cramer and Aiden Cramer; her great-grandsons, Tillman Prince and Leo Pretzel; her sister, Lynn K. Suzie and Bob were members of Trinity Baptist Church in Raleigh, NC, where they were actively involved in church activities, Sunday School Class and were both long time deacons. Suzie and Bob liked to cook and share their food and love at family gatherings where marathon “Spades” playing was a regular event. Suzie’s delicious baked goods and “cookies” were widely known and anticipated by her friends, Sunday School class, the friends she served as a deacon and even half-way around the world, packaged pristinely so none would crack, to serving members of our military in Afghanistan. Her flower arrangements, wreaths and package wrappings for her cookies were admired and enjoyed and she always put her special flare on everything she did! Her cookies, energy, beautiful smile and love for all of those she touched will be missed!
