Susie Sykes Ledford, 79, of Raleigh entered her heavenly home surrounded by family on Sunday, October 13, 2024. She was born on November 21, 1944, in Spring Hope, NC to the late Al Van and Sarah Carter Sykes.
She was preceded in death by her sisters, Kezia Griffin, Jessie Johnson, Marjorie White, Elsie DiBenedetto, Ida Sykes and Mary Wood; brothers, Alvin Lee Sykes, Quesnel Sykes, Rev. John Sykes and Charles Sykes.
Susie graduated from Spring Hope High School and Kings College. She was a long-time member of Bay Leaf Baptist Church and involved for many years with Bible Study Fellowship.
Susie will be greatly missed by her loving family. She is survived by her husband of fifty-five years, Don Ledford; her children, Don Ledford II (Elizabeth) and Mike Ledford (Tamara). She also leaves to cherish her memory five grandchildren; Hannah Ledford, Grace Ledford, Ryan Ledford, Luke Ledford and Sarah Ledford, brothers; D.B. Sykes and Jimmie Sykes, Sister; Shirley Jackson; numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be held at 3pm on Thursday, October 17, 2024, at Bay Leaf Baptist Church in Raleigh, with Dr. Will Gatling officiating. Burial will follow in Bay Leaf Baptist Cemetery. The family will then receive friends after the burial in the Fellowship Hall to break bread and celebrate Susie’s life.
In lieu of flowers, Susie’s wishes were for memorials made to Bay Leaf Baptist Church for Missions: 12200 Bay Leaf Baptist Church Rd, Raleigh, NC 27614.
