Susan was a 1988 graduate of North Carolina State University with a bachelor’s degree in business management. Susan adored North Carolina and was a dedicated public servant to the state. She began her career working with Secretary of State Thad Eure in 1986. She subsequently worked in the North Carolina departments of Environment, Health, and Natural Resources; Transportation; and Information Technology. Susan also worked several years for the NC Restaurant Association. Those who worked with Susan knew and respected her talent for navigating the policies, programs, and politics of this state. Her instincts and passion, along with her razor-sharp memory, made her a fierce competitor who could out-maneuver the most seasoned professional. During her career she mentored many who credit her with propelling their careers forward.
Susan was an avid reader, loved to garden, and had exquisite taste in decorating. She had extraordinary talent for picking out unique and perfect gifts for her friends. Susan was dedicated and loyal to those fortunate enough to be included in her most intimate circle. She knew a great number of people, and was friends with many, but she held close to her heart a small group that she adored. Few people in this life will ever have a friend as dedicated as Susan was to those she held dear. Her style, her flare, and her simple presence will be missed.
Susan is survived by this large group of devoted friends, neighbors and coworkers, along with family members in Rockingham.
Friends will hold a memorial service followed by a reception on Sunday, December 12, 3:00 p.m. at Brown-Wynn Funeral Home at 300 St. Mary’s St. in Raleigh. Attendees are asked to wear a face mask.
Those who wish to remember Susan may do so with a donation to the JC Raulston Arboretum at NC State University.
