Stanley Orin Barefoot

Stanley Orin Barefoot died on April 19, 2017 surrounded by family. Born on March 21, 1925 in Sampson County, North Carolina, he was the oldest son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Sellie Barefoot. He was predeceased by his loving wife of 69 years, Ann Nolen Barefoot. After graduating from Plain View High School in Dunn in 1942, he entered NC State. He interrupted his studies to enlist in the US Navy where he actively served until the end of World War II. He met Ann Nolen while stationed in Terre Haute, Indiana as an aviation cadet. They were married on December 21, 1946.

He resumed his studies at NC State and graduated with a B.S. degree in Agricultural Engineering in 1949. He was a registered Professional Engineer. Stanley served over thirty years as a civil and hydraulic engineer with the USDA Soil Conservation Service. During his lifetime he was actively involved in service to his church and community. He served as a deacon at Tabernacle Baptist Church and was a member of the Raleigh Optimist Club. He was a proud Mason for sixty years and was a past Master of the James B. Green Lodge No. 735 in Raleigh.

Stanley was devoted to his family and will be remembered for his ready smile, gift of storytelling and sense of humor. Surviving are his sons Steve (Gayle) of Tampa, FL, Tom (Victoria) of Annapolis, MD and Trace (Annette) of Raleigh, and his grandchildren Elizabeth, Nolen and Nicholas Barefoot and beloved niece and nephews. Special thanks is given to the staff of ComforCare Homecare, especially Wanda Wall and Cathy House, for the kind and loving care and friendship they shared with Stanley. Thanks also to his many friends at Whispering Pines Retirement Center.

A celebration of his life will be held at Raleigh Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel, 7501 Glenwood Avenue at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 7, 2017. The family will receive relatives and friends immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Tabernacle Baptist Church.
