Sophia Bridget (Strelakos) Robie was born in Staten Island, NY on 3/21/35. She passed away peacefully at the age of 86 with her daughters by her side on 5/26/21. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Sophie was a pillar of strength all her life. She lived most of her life in Stamford, CT. She attended and was a cheerleader at Stamford High School and graduated in 1953 and continued her education while raising six children. Sophie was employed by G.E., Graphic Color Plate, and Carol Lee Designs until retiring to Southport, NC.
She was very involved with her children. She was a cheerleading coach for the Pop Warner team Moose in which 3 daughters participated and loved watching and traveling to see her son Danny play ball. Sophie had many talents. She loved to dance and took tap and shag dancing lessons. She was an avid reader, loved to paint, bowled, and did the daily crossword puzzle. Sophie was always up for telling a good joke; especially, one with an Irish brogue. She really loved a good hockey game and rooted for her favorite teams. Sophie had taken many opportunities to travel here in the US and abroad.
Sophie is predeceased by her parents, Mary M. (Moroney), and George P. Strelakos, siblings Peter G. Strelakos, Mary E. Dandanell,
George P. Strelakos, Jr., and sons Jackie R. Robie, and Daniel B. Robie. She is survived by her sister, Louise Simonsen, her daughters, and their spouses, Deborah and Jerry Longyear, Lynn Robie Cambareri, Lauren and Dan Henson, Dawn Altomaro, and Mary Lou and Ron Francis. She is also survived by 17 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Sophie was a loving, caring Mom and will always be loved and adored by her children. Many of her friends were lifelong. They have said she was kind, a quick wit, and that her family is the epitome of love.
Arrangements will be handled by Leo P. Gallagher, private wake for Sophie’s Children, Grandchildren and Great-Grandchildren.
There will be a celebration of Life Mass at St. Maurice Church on Saturday, 6/05/2021 at 10 am. Interment will follow at Fairfield Memorial Park, 230 Oaklawn Ave.
