Sarah had been bravely battling leukemia for several years.
Sarah was born in Durham, North Carolina on December 6, 1944 to John Roy Beck, Jr. and Louise Waters Beck. She graduated from Northern High School in Durham in 1962 and earned a degree from Durham Business College.
Sarah worked as an executive assistant at GlaxoSmithKline for more than 25 years, retiring officially in 2013. For several years after retirement, she served on the Wycombe Manor Homeowner’s Association and the masterboard of Summerfield North-Wycombe Manor Homeowners Association for her community.
Sarah was a strong and beautiful lady known by all for her humor, wit, grace, and charm. Sarah enjoyed cooking, gardening, and watching football, but most important to her was time spent with her family. She especially doted on her four adoring grandchildren, who knew her as Grammi, and she loved baking with them, playing games, or just talking with them about their day. She loved her family dearly.
Sarah is survived by her loving and devoted daughters, Kelly Nicole Reeves and Sarah Kristen Reeves-Pennington, her son-in-law, Ken Pennington, her grandchildren, Mallie Pennington, Morgan Pennington, Cole Kaplan, and Lane Kaplan, and her brother, John Roy Beck III, and his wife, Beverly Beck, who will all deeply miss her every day.
The celebration of Sarah’s life for friends and family will be held on Saturday, March 4 at 10:30 a.m. at North Raleigh United Methodist Church presided over by Pastor Duke Lackey. A graveside service will follow at 2:00 p.m. at Maplewood Cemetery in Durham.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society at givenow.lls.org. The family of Sarah Reeves wishes to thank the staff, nurses, and physicians at the Duke Blood Cancer Center for their wonderful care of our mom.
