Sarah was born in Detroit, Michigan on September 14, 1936, to the late John and Ruby Mixon. She spent much of her career involved in museum and business leadership roles. Outside work, Sarah enjoyed reading, quilting, gardening, traveling to all corners of the earth, and serving at-risk children as guardian ad litem.
Sarah will be remembered as “the Lady in Lynn Haven” who was included in every airing of the WKGC-FM radio show “Big Band Saturday Night” when her husband, Doug, its host, wished her good night (at a pretty early hour).
In addition to her parents, Sarah was preceded in death by her husband, Doug Hough, and her brother Donald Mixon.
Sarah is survived by daughter, Elizabeth Culpepper (Bill); son, John Denning (Liz); sister, Carolyn Anderson; brother, Daniel Mixon; niece, Jean Leidner (Mark); nephew, John Mixon; and friends.
In accordance with their wishes, Sarah’s and Doug’s ashes will be incorporated into a memorial reef to be deployed by the Mexico Beach Artificial Reef Association for placement off the coast of Mexico Beach, Florida.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts to the Advocates for Children, Inc, P.O. Box 1521, Panama City, Florida 32402 (https://www.guardianadlitem14.com/advocates-for-children.aspx ), would be appreciated.
