Ruth Enloe Hay, born May 11, 1924 in Greenville, South Carolina died Saturday January 2, 2016. She lived in Raleigh most of her life and was the daughter of the late former Raleigh Mayor William G. Enloe and his wife, the late Ruth Erskine Enloe.
Ruth was a lifelong member of First Presbyterian Church, serving for many years as a kindergarten teacher, circle leader, and active member of the Koinonia Sunday School Class. She was Past President of Women of the Church and received an honorary life membership award in 1976.
She graduated from Needham B. Broughton High School and attended Greensboro College. She loved her husband, children and three grandchildren, extended family and many friends. She enjoyed cooking and keeping a great home for her husband as he ran a successful engineering practice for over fifty years.
Surviving are her daughter Ruth Ann Lanio and her husband Mike of Raleigh, her son Thomas Enloe Hay and his wife Terrilyn of Greenville, S.C. and their three sons Thomas, Jr., and Lewis both of Greensville, SC and middle son Stewart of Charlotte, NC
She was predeceased by her husband of 63 years Oscar Payne Hay Jr, whom passed away on November 23, 2015 and a brother, William G. Enloe, Jr. of Winston Salem, NC.
A funeral service will be held at 11 am on Tuesday January 5, 2016 at the First Presbyterian Church, Raleigh. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 10 am- 11 am at the church. Burial will follow the service at Historic Oakwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to First Presbyterian Church, 112 S. Salisbury Street, Raleigh, NC 27601. Arrangements by Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, Saint Mary's St., Raleigh.
