Roy B. Clark, Jr., 75, of Raleigh passed away on December 31, 2010. He was born near Littleton, N.C. the oldest son of the late Roy B. Clark, Sr. and Mary Elizabeth Clark. After graduation from Littleton High School in 1954, Roy served in the United States Marine Corps.
In 1955 he married his high school sweetheart, Mary Ann Bowers, relocating to Raleigh where they raised two sons Brad and Bill. Roy attended King’s Business College and began working as an accountant with Ralston Purina. In 1965 he accepted a position with Wake Memorial Hospital where he worked for 19 years. He advanced to the role of senior V.P. of fiscal affairs with the Wake County Hospital System in 1978. Later in his career he served as Vice President of financial services at Pitt County Memorial Hospital and completed his career with Methodist Retirement Homes, Inc. retiring in 1995.
In his life and career Roy exemplified a remarkable work ethic as well as the values of honesty and integrity. While working full time at Wake Medical Center he earned degrees in business management and accounting from North Carolina State University by attending night classes. Roy valued his service with the Sir Walter Lions Club and his years coaching his sons little league baseball teams.
Roy spent much of his retirement tirelessly renovating his family birthplace as well as tending a garden from which he generously shared vegetables and roses. During this time he took great joy in organizing family reunions at the Reid family home place and spending time with friends and family.
Roy is survived by his wife of 55 years, Mary Ann; his oldest son Brad of Raleigh and his two daughters Elizabeth and Sarah; his youngest son Bill of Greensboro, wife Louise and their daughters Katherine and Caroline; his brother Tom (Mary) of Littleton; his mother-in-law Ida Bowers; brother-in-laws Fred Bowers (Carrie) of Charlotte; Maurice Bowers (Sheri) of Petaluma, CA; and 8 nieces and nephews.
His family will receive friends Tuesday, January 4, 2011 from 7:00-9:00 pm at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 300 Saint Mary’s Street, Raleigh, NC. His funeral service will be at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, January 5, at the funeral home.
