Ross Shaheen, Jr - most recently of Raleigh, NC - left this earthly world on July 1, 2023. Ross celebrated his 90th birthday in January, surrounded by all of his family and remarked "I am the luckiest man alive.
Ross was born to Ross Alfred Shaeen and Maggie Armstrong Shaheen on January 28, 1933 in Jackson, North Carolina. Ross was the youngest of three siblings - and was predeceased by his brother, Jimmy, who died in World War I and his beloved sister, Elizabeth "Lib" Layton. In addition, he was predeceased by his first wife, Ann Lackey Shaheen, mother of his two sons.
As a young man, Ross played football for ECU (but somehow became a lifelong Duke fan!), and was a serial entrepreneur. At different times he owned a sandwich shop and a men's clothing store. In addition to that, he was a director and producer at WRAL and founded Cary Refrigeration, which he sold to his sons in the late 1990s.
For the last 20 years, Ross enjoyed retirement at Lake Gaston, where he loved fishing, his boats and driving his Polaris straight up the hill and sometimes in the lake, which caused his family great consternation! He was a terrific woodsmith, and left his children and grandchildren beautiful cedar-lined chests and many other trinkets he would fashion for those he loved.
Left to cherish his memory are his sons: Ross Alfred (Melissa) and Scott Edgar (Wendy) Shaheen. His grandchildren: Brandon Shaheen, Morgan (Will) Whitley, Jordan Shaheen, Carson Shaheen, Peyton Shaheen and Logan Shaheen. And his great-grandchildren, Sutton and Sawyer Whitley. In addition, his light and memory will be carried by his niece and nephew and their families who loved him dearly.
The family would like to thank the staff of Spring Arbor, who provided comfort and care over the last year and Hospice - especially Michael Webb, who was a funny and fierce advocate for Ross in his final months and days. The family is incredibly grateful for this support.
There will be a private memorial service for the family at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations samy be made to Amedisys Hospice, 220 New Fidelity Ct, Garner, NC 27529.
