It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Roger Bruce Zier on February 24, 2024, at the age of 83. Roger was born on April 6, 1940 to Bertha and Edward Zier in Trenton, NJ. He lived a full and happy life. Roger was predeceased by his parents, his brother, Steven, and his brother-in-law, Bill Fields. He is survived by his wife, Ellen, daughters Wendy Zier and Cindy Lesser, son-in-law Kenny Lesser, granddaughters Lauren, Allie and Rachel Lesser and Michelle and Danielle DeMunk, sisters-in-law Ilene Zier and Anne Fields, and many loving nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Roger was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and uncle. He was known for his wonderful sense of humor and infectious smile and laugh. He was deeply loved by his family and friends, and his memory will live forever in their hearts.
Roger attended the University of Michigan and graduated from Temple University’s School of Pharmacy. He spent many years working as a pharmacist before venturing into the jewelry business with his wife.
Roger was a hardworking man who took great pride in his work and enjoyed the time he spent with his friends and professional colleagues. His greatest joy was spending time with his family. He loved his children and grandchildren dearly and cherished every moment with them.
Roger had a passion for reading and for taking long walks in the neighborhood. He loved his dogs and all animals. He loved watching the news and discussing politics. He enjoyed fishing and traveling, going to the beach and to the mountains in the fall. He loved celebrating holidays with family and friends. He had a great sense of humor that was well known to all who knew him.
Roger will be remembered as a friendly and kind person who enjoyed being with people. He touched the lives of many and will be greatly missed.
The family would like to express their appreciation to Roger’s devoted caregivers, Sandra, Hannah, and Hope and to the warm and caring staff at Hospice.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association, Temple Beth Or, or a charity of your choice.
A graveside service for Roger will be held Tuesday, February 27, 2024 from 2:00 PM at Raleigh Hebrew Cemetery, 450 N State St, Raleigh, NC 27601.
