Alvah Rockwell Perkins, 79, passed away on January 31, 2012 surrounded by his family. Born on January 28, 1933 in Lebanon, New Hampshire; he was the son of the late Ernest and Katherine Bridge Perkins. He served honorably in the US Army with active and reserve duty.
Rock was a talented Architect, graduating from Syracuse University School of Architecture. He began his career in Syracuse, NY with Hueber, Hares & Glavin, later relocating to Boston, where he directed the Interior Design division of Beacon Corporation. Rock retired in Hilton Head, SC, then later moved to Chapel Hill, to be near family. He was a wonderful father, passionate about his daughters and an enthusiastic sports fan, particularly of the New England Patriots and the Boston Red Sox.
Rock is survived by his four daughters: Kathy Weischedel and husband Brian, of Raleigh, NC; Nancy Perkins, of Tinton Falls, NJ; Barb Perkins and Gary Duncan, of Marietta, NY and Jean Perkins and husband Patrick Sloan, of Raleigh, NC. Surviving grandchildren: James, David, Scott and Amy Weischedel of Raleigh, NC; Andrew, Kevin and Brian Eager of Tinton Falls, NJ; and Alyssa Perkins of Raleigh, NC.
The family will hold a memorial service at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Wake County in Rock’s memory. He will be missed dearly.
