He attended Penn State University and Mercyhurst College, graduating in 1980 with a Masters degree in Criminal Justice Administration. While living in Meadville, he worked at the courthouse as Deputy Chief of Crawford County Probation. After moving to Raleigh, he rose to Chief US Probation Officer of the Eastern District of North Carolina. He retired in 2006 to spend time with his family.
He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Cathy Ann George Singleton, and their three children: a son Robert and wife Heather, a son James, and a daughter Katie and fiancé Michael, all of North Carolina. He was a doting papa to his only granddaughter Krista Caroline Martinez and two grandsons Dylan and Shane Beebe. He grew up as part of a large and loving family of four brothers and five sisters. We will love and miss him in our lives.
