Robert Layne Hillman passed away in his home on Saturday, December 30, 2017. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Karen Dare Johnson Hillman, his son David Layne Hillman (Wendy Lee), his son John Thomas Hillman (Kristina Montuori), and his grandchildren, David “Layne” Hillman, Jr. and Eleanor “Hadley” Hillman.
Rob was born in Seattle, Washington but lived on the east coast since attending Washington and Lee University (’73, ‘76L), in Raleigh since 1978. An attorney and CPA, he clerked for Federal Judge John Larkins and spent most of his career in public service as counsel for the Offices of the Attorney General and State Auditor.
Rob was quick to make friends, easy-going and patient. He loved sports, old movies, novelty songs and, above all else, his family. A good, kind and honest man of incredible integrity, he was always there for us but can no longer be. We admired him so. We will miss him terribly. In loving memory,
