Richard F. Wallace, 96, of Raleigh, NC and former resident of New Bern, NC and Martinsville, NJ, died March 22, 2018. He was born in Moline, IL on November 27, 1921. Son of Wilford Bennett Wallace and Lydia Link Wallace, he was raised in Bloomfield, NJ and graduated from Bloomfield High School and Trenton State Teacher’s College of NJ. Mr. Wallace served in the US Navy during WWII, after which he worked as a music teacher in Point Pleasant Beach, NJ, and earned his master’s degree in music education from Columbia University in New York City. He worked for the NJ Dept. of Education for 35 years as a county music supervisor and school program coordinator. Mr. Wallace was a member of Hudson Memorial Presbyterian Church in Raleigh. He enjoyed music, bridge, tennis, golf, boating and travel.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Arliss Wallace and brother-in-law, Irving Grout. He is survived by two daughters, Carol Jean Palmer and husband, Walter of Trinity, FL and Nancy Wallace Edwards of Raleigh; two grandchildren, Sean Wallace Palmer of Clermont, FL and Chelsea Jean Palmer of Charlotte, NC; and one sister, Jean Grout of Exeter, NH and her family.
The family will receive friends from 5-6:30pm on Monday, April 9th at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 1701 E. Millbrook Road, Raleigh, NC 27609. A memorial service will be held 3pm Tuesday, April 10th at Hudson Memorial Presbyterian Church, 4921 Six Forks Road, Raleigh, NC 27609.
