Richard H. Bailey

Richard Haywood Bailey, age 79, passed away in the comfort of his home on Sunday, December 4, 2022. Born on November 15, 1943 in Roxboro, North Carolina; he was the son of the late Haywood Bradsher Bailey and Cleo Capitola Rogers Bailey.

Richard grew up in Roxboro, NC where he was an active sports fan and participant. In 1963, he met his future wife Patricia. After graduating from NC State, where he earned both a BS and MS in Electrical Engineering, he and Patricia married and he pursued a Military Career as a commissioned officer in the US Navy. He spent four years in Nuclear Engineering with Admiral Rickover in Washington DC. He continued in engineering with ALCATEL, during which time he was granted several patents. Retirement found him traveling, spending time with his children and grandson and enjoying life.

Richard is survived by his wife: Patricia Christianson Bailey; daughter: Leslie Bailey Roberts and husband Chris Roberts, of Roxboro; son: Scott William Bailey, of Roanoke Rapids; grandson: Richard Christopher Roberts, of Roxboro; brother: Paul Bailey and wife Gail Gentry Bailey, of Roxboro; his Christianson Family: Arthur William Christianson III and wife Joyce Travis Christianson, of St. Simon’s Island, Georgia; and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews; and other extended family and friends.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents and by his son: Richard H. Bailey, Jr. in 1986.

The Bailey Family would like to give special thanks to all the Hospice workers who gave loving care to Richard during his time of illness.

Family will receive friends on Thursday, December 8, 2022 from 4:30 – 6:30 pm at Brown Wynne Funeral Home (1701 E. Millbrook Road in Raleigh).
