Becca, the daughter of Pauline Turner Doughton and Claude Thomas Doughton, grew up in Sparta and Wilkesboro, NC, alongside her sisters Betsy Doughton Dillon, Jon Lee Bryant and baby brother, Tom Doughton. She was the granddaughter of Robert Doughton, the longest-serving member ever of the United States House of Representatives from the state of North Carolina and a key player in the creation of the Blue Ridge Parkway and the passage of the Social Security Act.
She went on to study and graduate from UNC-Greensboro which led to a career that spanned from school teacher to HR Director at College Foundation Incorporated.
Mother to Peter Rumsey Jr, Rachel Rumsey Tohm, and Seth Rumsey, Becca instilled a love of travel, learning, music, art, and family. Thanksgiving dinners with the extended family continue to be legendary reflecting the love and connectedness.
In the role of "GiGi," Becca brought joy and warmth to the lives of her cherished grandchildren—Ella Jo Rumsey, Kay Rumsey, Miles Rumsey, and Boris Tohm.
Becca was also an NC Extensions Master Gardener Volunteer, Election poll volunteer, and an accomplished ceramic potter, and pianist.
