who fears the Lord is to be praised.”
Proverbs 31:30
Pauline (Polly) Young Horton, 94, joined her Lord and Savior on Thursday, January 11, 2018. Born on August 12, 1923, she was raised by her grandparents on a beautiful farm in Knightdale, NC. Polly married W.B. (Bill) Horton after graduating from high school, and they moved to Raleigh.
Polly was devoted to and loved by her daughter, Candice Horton Lewis; and by her son-in-law, David McLeod Lewis, who preceded her in death. In addition, she is survived by her beloved granddaughter, Catherine Lewis Walsh (Jason) of Raleigh; grandson, Cameron Murry Lewis, (Katie) and great grandchildren Cameron, Daniel and Lydia of Asheville; and family friend, Carolyn Upchurch, of Raleigh.
Well-known for her love of flowers, gardening, pretty things and especially the color pink, Polly was often asked to decorate for parties and church events at White Memorial Presbyterian Church. For her many years of faithful service, Polly was presented the Honorary Life Membership Award by Presbyterian Women in 2002.
Enjoying lunch with friends was a highlight for Polly. Her kindness, gentleness and fun-loving spirit drew people of all ages to her. Most fulfilling in her life, however, was the time she spent studying God’s Word. Polly’s joy was found in her love for the Lord, family and friends.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm on Thursday, January 18, at White Memorial Presbyterian Church, 1704 Oberlin Road, Raleigh, NC 27608. A private service for the family in the Memorial Garden will precede the memorial service.
The family would like to thank the staffs at Elmcroft of Northridge and Hillcrest Raleigh at Crabtree Valley for their excellent care of Polly and those who have visited her through the years.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a contribution in Polly’s memory to White Memorial Presbyterian Church, 1704 Oberlin Road, Raleigh, NC 27608.
Arrangements by Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, Saint Mary’s St., Raleigh, NC.
