Pattie Sue Lilley

Born on December 12, 1941, she was the daughter of Minnie Jacobs Moses and Preston Brooks Moses of Chatham, Virginia, where she grew up. She received a nursing degree from Wake Technical Community College, Raleigh.

She worked at Duke University Hospital as a R.N. in the cardiac surgery intensive care unit. Later she worked at the Duke Clinical Research Institute as a clinical trial coordinator, monitoring trials of new drugs.

Pattie was the center of her large family, keeping track and giving of herself tirelessly and generously. Her home was a hubbub of activity for the family. Known for her “heart of gold,” she often took others under her wing, opening her home, acting as a mentor, or freely using her medical skills to help family and friends through a medical crisis. In one case, she turned her living room into a temporary shelter for a young woman who needed extensive recovery time and daily wound care. She also made it a priority to take special care of her parents as they aged.

Funny, entertaining, and colorful, Pattie could always make a good story better. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

She is survived by her husband, Robert C. Lilley of Raleigh; two daughters, Frances Clark of Raleigh, and Anne Lilley of Raleigh; three sons, Robert Lilley, Jr., and his wife Carolyn of Hebron, Kentucky; Preston Lilley and his wife Julia of Raleigh; Dr. John Lilley and his wife Deena of Morrisville; seven grandchildren, Steven Clark, Thomas Rush, Brook Wiseman, Josh Lilley, and Preston, Georgia and Olivia Lilley.

She is also survived by a sister, Eve M. Thorson of Topsham, Maine. Besides her parents, she was also predeceased by her brother, Preston Donald Moses of Staunton, Virginia.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 7, 2015, at the Raleigh Memorial Park, 7501 Glenwood Avenue, Raleigh. A visitation will follow. On line condolences may be sent to the family at www.brownwynne millbrook.com
