Owen Walker Reagan, Jr., 89, died at his home on Sunday, August 3, 2014 after battling Alzheimer’s for about 5 years. He was born in Laurinburg, the son of Owen Walker Reagan, Sr. and Maggie Muse Reagan. He was preceded in death by his sister Annie Lola (Tear) Reagan.
He received a civil engineering degree from NC State College and served in US Army Air Corps in WWII and in the US Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He worked for the NC DOT for 42 years. He was an active member of the Wesley Memorial UMC for 60 years, where he served as a Sunday School Teacher, Supt., Board Chair, usher and lay leader.
He married his only true love, and after working hard to make it possible for Alice to be a stay at home mom, he spent his retirement years providing and insuring for her care. He was dedicated to his children and grandchildren. He inspired them to love God and others, place their highest value on education and character, and always reminded them “behave yourself.”
Survived by his wife of 66 years, Alice DuBose Reagan; son, Walker (Janet) Reagan; daughters, Jan Reagan, Kathy (Dean) Strickland, and Carol (Stan) Ball; Grandchildren Wen (Casey) Reagan, Mills Reagan, Maggie Strickland, Daven Reagan, Reagan Strickland, Nixon Ball, Jacob Strickland and Anderson Ball; great grandson, Ezra Owen Reagan and sister Eleanor Reagan Middleton.
Owen’s family would like to thank the many caregivers of the Visiting “Angels” for their care, love and compassion as well as the Hospice Care at Transitions LifeCare, formerly Hospice of Wake County.
Memorial service will be held Wednesday, August 6 at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home’s Wynne Center, 300 St. Mary’s Street Raleigh, at 2:30 PM, with visitation following. There will be a private graveside service.
