Born October 29, 1931, in York, Pennsylvania, Norma was raised with her two brothers by loving parents. After high school, she worked in Washington, D.C., as an administrative assistant.
Norma married the love of her life and husband of 73 years, Bobby Lee Sanders, who preceded her in death two months ago. She was a dedicated United States Army officer’s wife. Norma’s pride and joy was raising her five loving children, Craig, Jeff, Brad, Leslie, and Julie. As a wonderful grandma to 15 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren, Norma taught them many life lessons that they will keep in their hearts forever.
From potato soup on Halloween to shrimp salad and pickin’ blue crabs, traditions were so important to Norma. She always looked forward to the annual Sanders Family Beach Week! She enjoyed swimming, traveling, playing Bridge and Yahtzee, long walks, knitting Christmas stockings, cross-stitching Santa pillows, giving advice - whether you wanted it or not… and, of course, snacking on chips, pretzels, and licorice!
Friends and family will gather for a Celebration of Life at Del Webb Carolina Arbors Varsity Room from 2-4 p.m. on Saturday, September 14, 2024. Interment with her husband Bobby Lee will be held at Arlington National Cemetery on December 2, 2024 at 1:00pm.
The family would like to express sincere appreciation to Norma’s personal nurse, Sara, for her amazing love, care, and friendship.
Norma will be missed but never forgotten. Well done, sweet and wonderful Mom. We love you!
