Born March 10, 1933 in High Springs, she was the daughter of Hugh Lynn and Eva Clifford (Lewis) Donnally. She attended High Springs public schools. After graduating from high school, she attended Jones Business College in Jacksonville, Florida, and Florida State University in Tallahassee, majoring in elementary education. After raising her three children, she was employed by the JC Penney Company before retiring early to enjoy her children and grandchildren.
She loved sewing for herself, her home, her children and, later, her grandchildren, along with needlepointing, home decorating, gardening, entertaining on her porch, genealogy and passing down family stories, and traveling with her family, most especially through her beloved south.
She is survived by her son Paul S. Tew and wife Chris, and daughters Sharon (Tew) Luihn and husband Michael, and Morgan Donnally (Tew) Bunn and husband Terry; grandchildren, Julia Tew, Alexandra "Ali" Tew, Tyler Bunn, Meredith Luihn, Catherine "Kate" Bunn, Allison (Luihn) Johnson (Jared), and Harrison Bunn; two great grandchildren and a great aunt, Ann (Lewis) Stott of Melbourne, Florida, along with a nephew and two nieces. She was preceded in death by her husband of 35 years, Raymond Ellwood Tew, her parents, Hugh Lynn and Eva (Lewis) Donnally, her much beloved sisters, Mary Lynn (Donnally) Cocke and Elizabeth "Betty" Lewis (Donnally) Downing, and one cherished niece, Linda Katherine Cocke.
The family offers heartfelt thanks to her wonderful caregivers at Legacy at Magnolia Glen, the wonderful and compassionate team at Transitions LifeCare, and her cherished friend, Michelle Masensa, who tenderly cared for her in the last months of her journey. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Transitions LifeCare at 250 Hospice Circle, Raleigh, NC, 27607.
In the end, our wealth is not measured by the bulk in our bank accounts, the size of our homes, or even the possessions we gather. Instead, our greatest treasures are those special moments that collectively take our breath away, the shared journeys that bind us together, and the precious memories that we hold forever in our hearts. Mom, you have enriched our lives immeasurably and have bestowed on each of us, who love you so deeply and dearly, the gracious gifts of your time, your love, your energy, and your stories. Until we meet again, soar, Mom, soar!
A memorial service (details pending) will be held in Raleigh in the days ahead with a private family burial in High Springs, Florida.
Arrangements by Brown-Wynne, 300 St. Mary's Street, Raleigh.
