Born in Cleveland, Ohio on December 26, 1935, Nancy was the daughter of Albert and Lucille Ballash. Graduating from Tavares, Florida High School, Nancy went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in Chemistry from Old Dominion College in Norfolk, Virginia; a master’s degree in Special Education for Emotionally Handicapped from the University of South Florida and her Doctor of Special Education from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (May, 1990). Her professional mission was to love children whom others might not. She retired from the Wake County Public Schools in January, 2001.
In addition to her family, Nancy’s other great loves were University of North Carolina athletics and her church. Nancy is survived by her loving husband of 63 years Manly Bryant Hudson, her two sons Bryant Ashley and Chris (Barbara), one daughter Anna Frey (Tony), one son-in-law Gary Sullivan, her grandchildren Jessica Sullivan Rakow (K.C.) and Joshua Sullivan (Juli Rose), Alex, Zadok and Carrie Anna Hudson, and Hudson, Keelyn and Abigail Frey, 3 great-grandchildren Trace and Briley Rakow, and Adam Sullivan, and one brother Albert Ballash. In addition to her parents, Nancy was preceded in death by two daughters, Carrie Lynn Hudson and Cyndi Sullivan.
Services will be held 11:00 am at Millbrook Methodist Church in Raleigh, NC on April 5, 2018. A reception/time of visitation will follow the service in the church education hall.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to Millbrook Methodist Church, Gail Parkins Ovarian Cancer Fund or a charity of your choice.
