Muriel Williams Moore passed away peacefully at her home in Raleigh, NC on Friday, December 9, 2022. She was born on July 10, 1930 in Hallsboro, N.C. to Jason and Hattie Williams. Merle, as she was known to her siblings and husband, was one of eight children in a very close-knit and loving family. She graduated from Hallsboro High School and attended Woman’s College (UNC-G).
After marrying Raleigh native Paul Moore, they moved to Washington, DC where Paul attended graduate school at Georgetown University and Muriel worked in banking. They later moved to Philadelphia and returned to Raleigh in 1955 where Paul worked as an engineer with the Department of Transportation and mother enjoyed being a homemaker. When her children were older she returned to banking, working as a loan officer with Wachovia. After retiring she and Paul traveled throughout the US and abroad, and spent a great deal of time in Southport, N.C.
Prior to mobility issues mother loved gardening, walking her dog Francine, and chatting with her wonderful University Park neighbors. In recent years she spent a great deal of time in the mountains near Blowing Rock and Boone where she always marveled at the beauty of nature. Mother was an avid N.C. State fan and enjoyed watching televised Wolfpack football and basketball games. She was a longtime member of Forest Hills Baptist Church where she loved attending classes and services and made many friends. An unkind word was never said by our mother; she truly “walked the walk”. She was adored by her family and will be missed very much.
We want to thank her longtime physician, Dr. Steven Liebowitz and his nurse Lori Bruce. Mother always enjoyed going to see Dr. Liebowitz because she found him to be an excellent physician who delivered wonderful advice with a great sense of humor. We also want to thank SarahCare (adult daycare) on Lake Boone Trail for fifteen months of fun and fellowship. Transitions LifeCare (hospice) was a tremendous support to our family during the last weeks of her life.
Muriel is survived by her daughter, Martha Wicker (Mike), son, Everette Moore (Susan), three grandsons, Michael Tyler Wicker, Ross Everette Wicker, Alexander Everette Moore (Ashlin). Two brothers, Charles Williams (Vickie) of Hendersonville, N.C. and Van Williams (Peggy) of Greensboro, N.C. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at Montlawn Memorial Park on Friday, December 16 at noon.
Memorial contributions may be made to Forest Hills Baptist Church, 201 Dixie Trail, Raleigh 27607 or the Wake County SCPA: www.spcawakeorg
