Mike graduated from High School and completed college at Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Virginia. He retired as an accountant from Progress Energy. He also served in the US Army.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Sarah Lynch Wilson; a daughter Susan Wilson Boydoh and husband, Robert, and grandchildren Jack and Frances of Greensboro. He is also survived by two brothers, Terry Wilson (Hazel), Stephen Wilson (Katie) and a sister, Brenda C. Smith (Ron) and his treasured aunt Willa Carter (Sam) and many special cousins and their families.
Mike will always be remembered as a true southern gentleman. He was a member of Edenton Street United Methodist Church and the Foundry Fellowship Class for over 45 years. His life centered around his family and friends. He enjoyed sports, traveling, spending time at the beach and in Greensboro with his daughter and grandchildren. He was a member of the Old Guard of the Virginia Tech Club, and the Raleigh Sports Club which he enjoyed with many close friends.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, March 23, 2011 at 2 p.m. at Edenton Street United Methodist Church with family receiving friends following the service in Kerr Hall.
Interment services will be 11:00 a.m. at Schoolfield Cemetery in Danville, Virginia on Thursday, March 24.
