Born and raised in Astoria, Queens, New York to the late Ellen and Thomas McMahon, Mike graduated from Manhattan College with a BS in Economics and from St. John’s University where he earned his MBA in Accounting. He later moved to North Carolina and spent the majority of his career as the Vice President and Controller of PCS Phosphate and was the Vice President and CFO of Brenntag Southeast before he retired.
Mike loved reading, especially historical books, and also enjoyed traveling, sitting on the deck watching birds, spending time at Emerald Isle, and sailing in the British Virgin Islands.
Additionally, he enjoyed watching football and was a lifelong fan of the New York Jets and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. Mike, known to family as “Bubba,” is survived by his wife, Sheila, and children, Michael (Soraya) of Dublin, Ireland; Patty (Michael) of Salina, KS; Kirsten (Jody) of Charlotte, NC; and Scott (Holly) of Raleigh, NC.
He is also survived by his grandchildren, Lillian, Gibson, Griffin, and Marigold.
A Liturgy of the Word will be held on Saturday January 14, at 11:00 am in the Main Sanctuary at Saint Francis of Assisi Catholic Church.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mike’s memory to North Raleigh Ministries or the Durham Rescue Mission.
