Michael Falzone, 97 years young, died March 20, 2014 following a brief illness. He was born on October 9, 1916 in Dunkirk, NY, later moving to Boston, MA. He was the son of Giovanni and Catherine Falzone.

He graduated from South Boston High School in 1932 and then attended Boston Trade School where he studied electronics. He worked for the US government as a marine electrician during World War II. Mike was certified by the Federal Government and taught electronics under the GI Bill. After the war, He moved to Buffalo, NY, where he met his wife, Phyllis, a NC native. Mike retired, at the age of 70, as supervisor of the Electronics Department at Dorothea Dix Hospital. He received the NC Order of the Long Leaf Pine and many other awards, as well as the admiration of many.

Mike was a faithful member of the Tabernacle Baptist Church for over 60 years. He was an avid Ham Operator, K4PSP, and enjoyed the many friendships forged over the years throughout the world. He had an invincible spirit and wit that touched everyone he met. Mike was an amazingly strong man in character, body and will. He was affectionately called “Daddio” by many.

Mike was preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, Phyllis Andrews Falzone; parents, Giovanni and Catherine Falzone; sisters, Mary Emma of California; Mame Vastola and brother Charles Falzone of Buffalo, NY, and Antoinette Iacco Hales, Sanborn, NY.

Left to cherish his memory are his long-time friends throughout the years and his son, John Manual Falzone and his wife Barbara Busacca Falzone, and daughter, Catherine F. Sullivan, her husband, Thomas C. Sullivan and his granddaughter, Amanda Yvonne Sullivan.

Funeral services to celebrate Mike’s life will be Thursday, March 27, at 2:00 p.m., at Tabernacle Baptist Church, 8304 Leesville Road, Raleigh, NC. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends beginning at 1:00 p.m. prior to the service.
