In loving memory of my husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. Merrill passed peacefully at home on Tuesday, March 16, 2021, at the age of 90. He was born in Schenectady, New York, over the course of his life he lived in many other states, finally residing in Raleigh, North Carolina.
He is survived by his wife Miriam W. Smith (90); his children; Robin Peters, Randy Smith and stepchildren Sally Walden, Sandra Winchell, Susan St. Amour, William Winchell, 10 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
Merrill’s career expanded over the years by serving in the Navy (on the Blimp squad), being a NY State Trooper, then joining the corporate world working for AT&T and then IBM as a system analyst.
During retirement, he enjoyed traveling around the world with his wife and friends, walking around the lake, skiing, and going to the symphony.
There will not be a memorial or funeral service. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
