Mary passed peacefully away with her daughters at her side at Sunrise of Raleigh in Raleigh, North Carolina at the age of 96 on February 8, 2023.
She was born in Kannapolis, North Carolina on September 19, 1926. She graduated from AL Brown High School and continued on to receive education in business school.
Mary was married to her childhood sweetheart, Henry Ford Walker, in June of 1944 and they were married 47 years.
She enjoyed her work in Station Accounting in the Department of Forest Resources at NC State University for 25 years. She also enjoyed playing Bridge, gardening, dancing, her large family and she was a legendary WolfPack fan. She had many wonderful friends and everyone who knew her spoke of Mary’s beautiful smile that she shared with everyone, having never met a stranger.
She was the last of the living Charter Members of Avent Ferry Road Methodist Church where she was an active member since 1946.
Mary is survived and was so very much loved by daughter Carol Mobley (Phil Mobley), daughter Susan Eubanks (Terry Eubanks), her 100 year old brother Norris Dearmon, five grandchildren, Walker (Jenee), Sara (Mark), John (Brandi), Carrie (Alden), and Megan (Caleb), eight great-grandchildren, Scarlett, Juliette, Grace, Jay, Ellie, Jett, Reed and Ella, and many nieces and nephews. All were such a joy to her and she doted on each and every one and each thought they were her favorite. To quote a very dear friend:
“Her presence and heart were so much larger than that little body of hers. She enriched all of our lives with her love and grace.”
Mary is preceded in death by husband, Henry Ford Walker, father, Willie O’Neal Dearmon, mother Carrie Epsy Nicks Dearmon, brother Howard Dearmon, sister Betty Ruth Fuller.
The Celebration of Life will be held at Avent Ferry Road Methodist Church. on Saturday, February 18, 2023. Rev. Steven Mc Neal will be officiating. Please join us for a visitation at 11:00 AM with the service following at noon. Interment following the service at Montlawn Cemetery in Raleigh. Family and pallbearers will be wearing something red for Mary’s Wolfpack. Feel free to join us wearing something red also, if you so desire.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to Transitions LifeCare at transitionslifecare.org/donate. The Mobley/Eubanks family wishes to thank Hospice Transitions LifeCare for the many acts of kindness, love and personal outreach that they gave to Mary and her family. They are the best at what they do. We also want to thank those who were Mary’s caregivers at Sunrise of Raleigh.
