Mary Grey Tart Porter

Born November 28, 1935 to the late Herman Tart and Hilda White Tart of Clarkton, NC, Mary is survived by her daughters Suzy and Ginger, son Buzzy and daughter-in-law Bonnie. She was preceded in death by her sister Ann Young.

After graduating Valedictorian of Whiteville High School, and then East Carolina University, Mary taught high school before marrying her high school sweetheart and moving to Raleigh. Mary worked with the Sim H. Wells Real Estate Agency for years before joining and eventually retiring from the Environmental Protection Agency.

After many more years of drinking coffee and Coca Cola, smoking cigarettes and reading books, Mary began the slow insidious process of forgetting everything as Alzheimer’s Disease took her from us one piece at a time. Through it all, her love for her children and any animal she could see or get her hands on remained.

Visitation will be held 6-8pm Wednesday, July 27, 2016 at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home on Millbrook Road. Burial in Whiteville, NC will be private. Beautiful flowers at the visitation or a donation to your local SPCA are welcome tributes to a life that brought so much love and joy to the lives of her children.
