Marvin served in the Navy during World War Two and was a graduate of The University of
Pittsburgh where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering. While in Pittsburgh,
he was involved with the UJA, and sang at The Poale Zedeck Synagogue during the High Holy
Days. He was generous with his time, and served as President of Cumberland, MD Community
Chorus, and President of Gateway Lodge, B'nai B'rith in Pittsburgh.
He worked for IBM in Endicott, NY for 25 years, and also was a member of the Tri Cities Opera
Chorus in Binghamton, NY. The family moved to Austin, TX in 1980, where Marvin was a
member of the Austin Lyric Opera chorus for 18 years. The family attended Congregation Beth
Israel where Marvin organized and directed a choir, was president of the Men's Club, and sang
for the Circle of Friends. The family were also members of Congregation Shir Ami in Cedar
Park, TX where Marvin was a song leader. He was also President of the IBM Glee Club and a
founding member of Austin Lite Opera, while also performing at various retirement and nursing
homes.
Marvin was a friend to all, and he never met a stranger. He made people smile, and had a great
love of family, music, travel, camping, and all things Pittsburgh. He traveled extensively with his
wife throughout Europe and the United States.
