Marlene Carole Klett Shumate

Marlene Carole Klett Shumate, 80, passed away peacefully Wednesday, January 20, 2016 at the home of her daughter in Wilmington, NC after a battle with dementia, neuropathy, then cancer. After marrying Stewart Thomas Shumate of Cherryville, NC in 1964, they resided in Raleigh, NC, where she continued to live after his passing in 1998. Marlene was known in the Raleigh community as WRAL's "First Weather Girl". She was remembered for her signature sign off with a smile and a wink. After her daughter was born, Marlene established a career in real estate, working for Myrick Realtors and Ammons Pittman.

She is survived by her daughter, Stephanie Shumate of Wilmington NC; her granddog, Macy; sisters- in-law, Beverly Bridges of Cherryville, NC and Sandra Stallings of Charlotte, NC; other surviving family is mostly in the Midwest.

A memorial service will be held 1:00pm Saturday, January 30, 2016 at Our Savior Lutheran Church, 1500 Glenwood Avenue, Raleigh, NC 27608. Following the service, family will receive friends in the fellowship hall.
