Marjorie W. Edwards

She was born May 29, 1922 in Enfield, NC. The eldest of three children, born to Ralph G. Willey Sr. and Ruth Neville Willey. She was preceded in death by Sister Sarah W. Harrison and is survived by her brother Ralph G. Willey, Jr. who continues to live on the family farm in Enfield. Marjorie graduated Valedictorian from Enfield High School, and then attended the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, commonly known as “Women’s College”. In 1942 she married her high school sweet heart, Joseph F. Edwards Jr. Supporting the war effort they moved to Baltimore, Maryland to work at Glen L. Martin Co. manufacturing WWII aircraft. Upon returning to North Carolina, Marjorie continued her career working with Congress, the North Carolina State Legislature, Aeroglide Corporation, and finally the Department of Adult and Community College Education at NCSU until her retirement in 1989.

Marjorie will always be remembered as the epitomy of southern grace and for her loving devotion to her beloved husband of 68 years who preceded her in death on December 1, 2010 and three children. Marjorie is survived by her son Joseph F. Edwards, III and wife Allison of Raleigh, daughter Sarah Jane Edwards of Raleigh, daughter Marjorie Lynch of Woodstock, GA. and, two granddaughters Brittany Lynch and Courtney Lynch also of Woodstock.

The family wishes to give special thanks to Josephine Bryan, Florencia Gonzalez, Dorothy LeMay, Christi Ocke, Melodie Winn, and Linda Bonner. They will always be appreciated with undying gratitude and affection for the years of care and compassion they provided our “Ms. Margie”.

Services will be held Thursday, April 5th at Brown Wynne Funeral Home, 300 St. Mary’s Street in Raleigh at 3:00pm. Visitation with family will follow immediately afterwards in the parlor.
