Marie Cecilia Keating Bayley, 88, died Tuesday, July 31, 2012. Born in Chicago, Ill., in 1923, Marie was the oldest of four children born to Francis and Marie Keating. She graduated from Marywood High School, Evanston, Ill., and attended Mundelein College in Chicago before going to work for The United States Department of Internal Revenue.
She is survived by her loving husband Daniel E. Bayley; seven children: William (Dana), Michael (Sharon), Mary Pat Devay (Dan), Thomas, and James, all of Raleigh; Carolyn Woltjen (James) of New Bern; Charles (April) of Ellenboro; 11 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, William Keating of Alabama, and sister, Joanne Hickey (John) of Glencoe, Ill.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Her parents; her sister Alice Rollings; and two sons, Daniel, Jr., and Robert preceded her in death.
Marie and Dan moved to Raleigh in 1953. They were founding members of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church where she served in the Altar Society and as a volunteer over the years. She was a member of the Fallon Park Garden Club and an avid bridge player. She was also a prolific, creative and wonderful seamstress.
A funeral mass will be held at Our Lady of Lourdes at 11:00am Friday August 3, 2012, with a reception to follow in the Fallon Center. Internment will immediately follow the reception at Raleigh Memorial Gardens.
