Margaret Tucker Boylan Gaddy , 82, of Raleigh died Thursday, June 22, 2017 at her home, surrounded by her family. She was born on August 23, 1934 in Raleigh, North Carolina to the late Juanita Stuart Justus and Rufus Tucker Boylan. She married Robert Edwin Gaddy, Jr. in 1958. Margaret attended St. Anne’s in Charlottesville, Virginia and Peace College in Raleigh where she was May Queen.
Margaret was a lifetime member of Christ Episcopal Church in Raleigh where she was baptized, confirmed and married. Her greatest devotion and love was for her church and family. She always stressed the unity of family.
She was preceded in death by her son-in-law, John Henry Myers of Winston-Salem.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by three children, daughter, Margaret Tucker Gaddy Fogarty and husband, Mike Fogarty of Alexandria, VA, daughter, Anne Traywick Gaddy Myers of Winston-Salem, NC, and son, Robert Boylan Gaddy of Chapel Hill, NC. In addition she is also survived by six grandchildren, Margaret Tucker, Turner, Andrew, Lilly, Robert and Rob.
Margaret will be remembered for her amazing talents in French hand sewing, needlepoint, watercolor painting, and her love for literature. Margaret appreciated the natural beauty in the simplest of things, such as her garden that was home to her favorite bird, the hummingbird.
She was known as an avid volunteer in her community. She enjoyed working with the Altar Guild, Meals on Wheels, and also helped cook in the kitchen of Christ Church. Margaret was also part of the Junior League and the Colonial Dames. Earlier in her married life Margaret helped to transform the old Tucker Carriage House which is known today as Arts Together. She was also manager of Boylan Apartments.
A funeral service will be conducted Saturday, June 24, 2017 at 11:00 am at Christ Church, 120 East Edenton Street, Raleigh. The family will receive friends following the service at the church. Burial will be private in Historic Oakwood Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Christ Episcopal Church, 120 East Edenton St. Raleigh, NC 27601, in Margaret’s memory.
