Margaret Della Corbett

Margaret Della Corbett, 87, passed away peacefully on Thursday morning, March 15, 2012 at The Oaks of Mayview in Raleigh. Born on March 29, 1924 in Apex and raised in Cary, she was the daughter of the late Hampy McCall and Maude Bloom Fralick.

Margaret was a proud White Imp, graduating from Cary High School, Class of 1941. A Marine Corps wife, Margaret enjoyed travelling and establishing households in Virginia, Hawaii, California, Maryland, Florida, Rhode Island, and North Carolina. She was a 60-year member of Forest Hills Baptist Church and active in the “49ers” Sunday school group. She was a country music aficionado, an avid bridge player, a practitioner of southern cooking, an astute investor, a talented gardener, and a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Col. L. Vance Corbett, USMC (Retired) of Raleigh; daughters Pamela Anne of Mt. Airy, and Judith Claire of Raleigh, son Gregory and wife E Soon, of Stafford, VA; grandchildren, Virginia Smith and husband Greg of Youngsville;, Kimberly of New York City; Brendan of Raleigh, and Robert of Lowgap; and great-grandchildren, Colby, Raine, Summer, Khai , and Tinsley of Youngsville; a sister, Jo Lee Williams of Raleigh; sister-in-law Louise Fralick of Hampton, New Hampshire; and dear friends Amanda Wheeless, Vivian Godwin, and Catherine Neal, all of Raleigh.

Margaret was preceded in death by brothers Clifton, Talmadge (Ben), Riddick, and Pete; and grandson Marshall.

Family will receive friends on Wednesday, March 21, 2012 from 1-2 PM at Forest Hills Baptist Church in the parlor, with funeral services to begin at 2 PM in the sanctuary. Interment will follow at Raleigh Memorial Park.

Margaret’s family would like to extend their deepest appreciation to the staff and caregivers at The Oaks of Mayview for the loving care provided during her residency there.
