Malcolm Currie, “Mack”, Parnell, “Poppi”, 85, peacefully passed away on November 28, 2015. He was born in Parkton, NC on April 2, 1930. He graduated from Guilford College in 1980. Mack was a North Carolina State Employee for 40 years. He served as a State Trooper for the NC Highway Patrol before transferring to the NCDMV Enforcement Section. He retired from service in 1991.
Mack is survived by his wife, Grace; children, Anne Parnell Hatcher (Rusty) and Malcolm C. “Mac” Parnell, Jr. (Kim); grandchildren, Adam Gurley (Ashley), Kate Parnell, Currie Parnell, Alex Vincent, and Jim Vincent (Gaby); and brother, Dennis Alfred “Alf” Parnell (Dottie); son-in-law Dan Gurley (Leigh); and three great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Dennis and Lucinda Parnell, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Cindy Parnell Gurley and seven siblings.
Mack was a past Master of the Masonic Lodge in Hillsborough, NC and a member of the Wake County Shrine Club. He was a charter member of Greystone Baptist Church and served faithfully in many capacities.
A memorial service will be held at Greystone Baptist Church, 7509 Lead Mine Road, Raleigh, NC 27615 on Monday, November 30, 2015 at 1:30 pm. The family will receive friends after the service.
