Lidia Balaj

Lidia Balaj, at the age of 57, was called home by her heavenly Father on Febuary 15, 2017. Lidia was born on March 26, 1959 in Sannicolau Mare to parents, Ioan & Ana Gavojdean. On September 22, 1985 she married the love of her life, Joseph Balaj, and together they celebrated 32 years of marriage and had three beautiful children: Olivian, Aura, and Flavia. She was gifted with 3 grandchildren whom she loved and adored: Caleb, Sebastian, and Jonah. In 1990 the family migrated to the United States and happily raised their three children in California until relocating to Durham, North Carolina in 2012.

Lidia was the world’s greatest homemaker, a fantastic and unconditionally loving wife & mother, and a lover of all things flowers. She loved to entertain in her home, donate her time and efforts to helping others, enjoyed gardening and hands down made the best tiramisu you’ll ever taste.

Lidia left behind her husband Joseph, three children and their spouses: Olivian & Remelia Balaj, Teo & Aura Magda, Daniel & Flavia Coste. Her three grandchildren: Caleb, Sebastian, Jonah. Two brothers and their families: Ioan, Florin, Mihaela, & great niece Cristina, Gica, Leuntina & Dinu Gavojdean. And many loving sister in laws, brother in laws, nieces, and nephews, and friends.

A Funeral Service, officiated by Pastor George Lupsea of Grace Romanian Church, will be held on Friday afternoon, February 24th at 4:30 pm in the chapel of Mitchell Funeral Home (7209 Glenwood Avenue in Raleigh, NC). Visitation will follow the service until 8 pm.

A Service will also be held on Saturday, February 25th from 11 am – 1 pm in the chapel of Mitchell Funeral Home, with a walking procession behind a horse-drawn caisson to the graveside service at Raleigh Memorial Park. (If you are unable to walk in procession, you certainly may drive to the graveside service behind the procession.)
