Kevin Christopher Fox, 25, passed away peacefully and gracefully, in his mother’s arms and with his father by his side, on January 26th, 2024. He died as he lived, generously giving and surrounded by unconditional love. Kevin was born in Raleigh, North Carolina on February 23, 1998 to Michael and Wanda Fox of Raleigh. He is survived by his parents and sister Katherine “Kat” Fox of Raleigh, Grandmother Betty Fox of Raleigh, David and Richelle Fox of Raleigh, Hannah, Jerry, Abigail and Dylan Fox of Raleigh, Leslie Fox of Raleigh, extended loving family and friends. Kevin was preceded in death by his beloved big sister, Madeline Fox, with whom he is surely having a joyous reunion.
Kevin courageously battled a rare and severe degenerative neurological disorder for most of his life. While this disease took away most of Kevin’s physical capabilities, his joy, love, and appreciation for life was boundless. Through all his pain, the hospitalizations, surgeries, and medicinal interventions, Kevin always offered a smile and a look of love. When describing him to others, we would say that Kevin is one of the happiest people we have ever known. He knew only of love and caring in his life, having never been hurt intentionally or confronted with worldly challenges. He was pure, and he taught us to always find a way, to look forward, and to smile while doing it.
Kevin loved music, toy frogs and long showers. He loved looking at the ocean, counting stars in the night sky, and having books read to him. He loved Sesame Street, and during his afternoons he would often watch episodes from all 54 seasons. In 2006, Kevin and his family had the amazing experience of a Make-A-Wish Foundation trip to the Sesame Street studios in Queens, New York. Kevin got to hang out with his furry friends, and he was over the moon!
Kevin had an incredible network of caregivers, teachers, doctors, specialists, case managers and support systems that enabled him to be cared for at home, his favorite place on earth. We appreciate these friends of Kevin so much, knowing their impact on helping him to live a long and happy life with us.
We witnessed several miracles throughout Kevin’s life, and we are so grateful for the gift of time we were given. Loving Kevin, taking care of him and learning from him has been an honor, a privilege, and the most exquisite journey of our lives. Fly high sweet angel! You will always be our hero.
