Kevin Lawrence Clark of Raleigh, North Carolina, passed away on Monday, June 12, at the age of 67. He was born September 13,1955 in Teaneck, NJ. In 1969, Kevin moved with his family to Prairie Village, Kansas.
He graduated from The University of Kansas with a BA in Special Education in 1977.
A few years after college, Kevin moved to Pacific Beach, California, where he perfected his laid back beach vibe. He taught tennis lessons by day and worked as a server at an oceanfront restaurant by night. For years, Kevin biked to the beach to body surf before the sun was too high and the beach too crowded. Kevin was his own triathlon; he swam, biked and surfed. After years of a carefree lifestyle, Kevin grew restless and unmoored; he struggled to find a path forward. In 2008, Kevin made the move to join his family in North Carolina. He was a faithful in home companion to his Mom, who passed away in 2022. They cared for each other, argued about how to decorate the Christmas tree, watched Jeopardy and planned their weekly treks to Harris Teeter. Kevin worked and worked out at the A.E. Finley YMCA. The “Y” was his second home; his colleagues’ friendship and support were a bright spot in Kevin’s life. Kevin always looked forward to seeing his “regulars,” bantering with them about KU basketball, movies and cooking shows. Kevin loved his family, the San Francisco Giants, Willie Mays, and the Les Misérables soundtrack. Kevin was loved for who he was and who he wanted to be.
He was preceded in death by his father, Vincent Clark, mother, Marie Clark, and brother, Vince Clark.
He is survived by his seven siblings: Kathleen Hampton, Thomas (Katie) Clark , Eileen (Henry) Pruette, Jeanne (Bill) Evans, Maureen (Shailesh) Maingi, Joseph (Denise) Clark, Edward (Frances) Clark, sister in law, Carolyn Clark and many nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Mass was held at St. Francis of Assisi Chapel on June 22, 2023.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in his honor to the A.E. Finley YMCA, North Raleigh.
