Keith had gained a BSc in Organic Chemistry at Newcastle University, England, and his MSc and Phd at the University of Manchester, England. He then continued with post doctoral studies at Columbia University, New York, and the Dyson Perrins Laboratory, University of Oxford, England. He then went on to join the research team at the MRPRA, based at Hertford, England, before eventually moving on to the Research and Development department of Raychem Corp., an American business with a plant in Swindon, England. This job change brought him and his family to North Carolina and his Science Research career of more than two decades with Raychem Corp, which included 9 years in California.
Keith was a very talented scientist, passionate about his research studies. When, in 1999 ,he retired from Raychem Corp. he accepted a part time Associate Professorship at N.C State University, teaching a Senior Design Class. He enjoyed these years of his life, working with young scientists.
Keith was a quiet man with a wry sense of humor, who loved family gatherings. He was a pretty good golfer for many years, and enjoyed following the big tournaments. He also liked following Premier League soccer. He loved to travel, and see new cities. He gained a keen interest in wheel pottery and became quite accomplished, producing some really nice ceramic pieces. He had great love and compassion for all animals, enjoying the family dogs over the years.
During his struggle with the increasingly devastating symptoms of Alzheimer's disease for several years, Keith showed such determination, bravery and strength.
He is lovingly remembered by his wife of 55 years, Frances Dawes; children, Stephen Dawes (Debbie), Tony Dawes (Carrie); granddaughters, Emma Dawes, Peyton Dawes, Lillie Dawes.
An ‘Open House’ Celebration of Keith’s life will take place at the Dawes family home, on Saturday, July 15th from 3 pm-8 pm. Heavy hors d'oeuvres will be served.
