Kathryn Harrison Brady went home to be with her Lord and Savior surrounded by her family on Thursday, February 25, 2016. Born on February 11, 1916 to Frank and Elmina Harrison, she was raised on a farm in Gastonia, NC. She just recently celebrated her 100th birthday surrounded by her loved ones, including her four granddaughters and great-granddaughter. Kathryn taught third grade for 20 years at Lacy Elementary and was a devoted member of Hayes Barton Baptist Church for 70 years. She was a faithful Christian, wife, mother, grandmother, great- grandmother and friend to many.
Kathryn was an avid bridge player and reader. She taught her children and grandchildren how to play cards and was ruthless in the games of Spades, Crazy Eights, and Go Fish. In recent years, she embraced family game night with her children and grandchildren, participating fully in games like Charades and Catch Phrase. She appreciated the small things in life, especially dessert, her favorite part of every meal. No matter how full she claimed to be, a big piece of cake would always disappear if placed in front of her. When the weather was nice, she spent her days watching the neighborhood on her front porch with a glass of sweet tea. Even at 100 years young, she always insisted on having her feet in the dirt and was regularly seen tending to her yard. Within the last year, she looked forward to spending time with her great-granddaughter. Her family will always remember the quality time spent around her dining room table celebrating birthday dinners and special occasions. Her chicken salad, cranberry casserole, sweet potato crunch and sugar cookies will be made for years to come in the kitchens of her extended family. She had a great spirit, personality, and character and will be deeply missed by her loved ones.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, Raymond Browning Brady and her siblings, Rebecca Coffey and Dan Harrison. She is survived by her two children, Alice Brady Sprinkle (Jim) and R. Daniel Brady (Jane), both of Raleigh, NC; her sister Mary Frances Crawford; her four granddaughters, Laura Sprinkle Byerly (Chris), Kathryn Elizabeth Sprinkle, Katharine Brady Hooker (Cahill), Mary Alice Sprinkle and her great-granddaughter, Brady Louise Byerly.
A memorial service is scheduled for Saturday, April 2nd at 2 pm at Hayes Barton Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hayes Barton Baptist Church TV Ministry, 1800 Glenwood Avenue, Raleigh, NC, 27608 or the charity of your choice.
"A sheep of thine own fold, a lamb of thine own flock, a sinner of thine own redeeming, give rest, O Christ, to thy servant with thy saints, where sorrow and pain are no more, neither sighing, but life everlasting."
