Mrs. Miller was born and raised in Belfast, Ireland, to the late Kathleen Lehman and Herbert N. Ferguson. She came to the United States as a war bride in 1946, coming through Ellis Island, moving to Rhode Island with her husband. She relocated to Raleigh in 1953. After her divorce, she met and married Alexander Miller and they moved to Rockville, MD. She returned to Raleigh in 2008 and became a resident of Springmoor Retirement Community.
Ms. Miller was preceded in death by her husband Alex and her stepson Lex.
She is survived by her son, Brian Johnston, and his wife, Akiko Busch, of Unionvale, NY; daughters, Gayle Johnston of Raleigh, and Kerry Holjes of Fuquay-Varina; stepchildren, Maureen Fennel, Greg Miller, and Wendy Miller, and daughter in-law Pam Miller; grandchildren, Shannon, Sean, Erin, Colin, Noel, Lucian, Bryan, Jeannie, Johnny, Christopher, Elizabeth, Hannah and Eric; numerous great grandchildren; brother, Norris Gaselee, and sister, Dawn St. Romaine, both of England.
She was a longtime member of Christ Church, where she sang in the choir.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, November 3, 2022 at 2:00 pm in the Springmoor Auditorium, 1500 Sawmill Road, Raleigh. In lieu of flowers, please direct memorials to Transitions LifeCare or to the Springmoor Endowment Fund, using the links below under 'donations'.
