You were my camp counselor at the YWCA when I was about 9 years old. I never forgot you. I was hoping to reconnect but sadly discovered you had passed away. I wanted to let you know I advocate for children with disabilities now. I have come a long way since my bratty kid days, and wanted to thank you for the impact you had on me.  I wish I had found you sooner. RIP Karen 😔 

Karen & her family was a family to my family since we both were in 5th grade in Atlanta, Ga
We stayed close all these years.  Her memory was a photographic one & she would make me laugh all the time of some of the memories she would share of our adventures.  I miss her greatly and thank the Lord for putting us together. What a Blessing Karen was.  Love, Karrie Balentine Lawrence

Karen was one of the first people I met when I began working in advocacy and specifically with self-advocates.  She and I clicked immediately and I most remember her great wit and the way she made me laugh.  I will miss her, but her contributions to the self-advocacy movement in NC will never be forgotten.

Karen was one of the first advocates I met when I moved to North Carolina. Her passion, institutional knowledge, and commitment to improving the lives of people with disabilities were inspiring. May her memory be a blessing...

I had the great pleasure of working with Karen to improve everyday lives of individuals who have disabilities. I loved her  spark and humor. She made the world a better place! 

Kenny, so sorry to hear about Karen’s passing. I know she was your soulmate. She was a beautiful person with a tenacity that drew us all in. A fierce advocate and a great friend, I feel blessed to have known her.  I hope you find comfort in all the beautiful memories and accomplishments you shared. Sending hugs, prayers, and positive energy your way. 

Karen was a beautiful person inside and out. There was always a hug when she saw you. Karen loved everyone. She will be missed.
